A six or twelve week programme of writing therapy workshops designed to develop your self-esteem, build confidence and create healthy boundaries.
The programme is facilitated by an experienced BACP accredited counsellor and certified poetry therapist. Charmaine uses a range of practical techniques from; Coaching, Positive Psychology, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Counselling and Stress management theories.
She also uses different aspects of therapeutic writing to address issues of confidence and self-esteem for personal growth and healing.
The programme challenges any negative self beliefs in a safe and supportive manner; it reduces stress and anxiety whilst promoting self-care.
A relaxation C.D. – Courage to Be Me – For self acceptance and self esteem. This is an integral part of the programme offering guided visualisations and encouraging participants to continue with the breathing and relaxation techniques.
The C.D. reinforces healthy lifestyle changes which help to reduce stress and tension.

Who is the programme for?
This programme is suitable for anyone who has experienced trauma, life challenges or transitions which have had an impact on their self esteem- and world view.
How the programme is delivered
Creative and expressive writing is a key part of the programme. However; the focus is on personal development, not on writing techniques.
The programme is experiential and practical. Participants will have an opportunity to try out various writing exercises and we will use them as the basis for discussion and further exploration.
When we discover some of the unconscious messages we routinely send to ourselves this can offer us insight and opportunity to change.
How therapeutic writing works
We will use various prompts such as: words, poems, art, post-cards, positive affirmations, stories, unsent letters and acrostics.
The exercises include individual tasks, pair work, small and large group work and some guided imagery.
A journal is also provided for participants to use in between sessions to further enhance their self-awareness and improve wellbeing.
Participants especially benefit when they share their writing. Hearing their words validated by others can be a powerful learning experience and can lead to deeper levels of understanding and increased confidence. However, participants always decide what they wish to share.
By the end of this programme participants should be able to:
- Increase their self awareness, self confidence and self esteem
- Begin to heal and recover from negative experiences
- Identify how their inner critic may be limiting them and their potential
- Explore habitual patterns and assumptions
- Ease stress and tension
- Transform limiting beliefs to empowering beliefs
- Increase their motivation and set goals for success

I am a BACP registered accredited counsellor and a certified poetry therapist.
I undertook my training in poetry therapy with The International Federation for Biblio/Poetry Therapy in U.S.A.
I am a member of Lapidus the UK organisation for writing and reading for health and wellbeing. Lapidus works from the principle that words used creatively can be a powerful tool for health and personal, community and world development.
I am also a professional member of National Association for Writing in Education (Nawe).
With 17 years’ experience of helping clients and more recently seven years working with people using therapeutic writing in group settings to heal from life’s issues, gain a better perspective on life; and clarify their dreams and aspirations.

This workshop helps participants to focus on how they can view themselves in a more positive light.
Creating my safe place
This workshop helps participants to focus on identifying a safe place, where they can feel calm and contented. Self change is much easier when we are relaxed and able to visualise positive outcomes.
I am worth it
This workshop helps participants to focus on their unique skills and talents which will bring them the greatest success and happiness.
Write off my inner critic
This workshop helps participants to take new action and make positive changes in order to be the best they can be.
Forgiving and releasing
This workshop helps participants to release and let go of negative thoughts and experiences that are limiting their relationships.
Opening my heart for success
This workshop helps participants to develop and maintain confidence and self belief to realise their full potential.
